In a recent notification published by the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), Division I, the textbooks of Class 9 and 10 have undergone a significant revision from the academic session 2026-27. Multiple subjects have been affected by this revision. In this article, we are trying to provide a detailed analysis of the changes incorporated in the textbooks. The board has urged schools throughout Assam to embrace the updated textbooks as soon as they receive their official release.

SUBJECTS AND TEXTBOOKS THAT BEEN BEEN UPDATED
A number of textbooks taught in the secondary school will undergo significant changes after this notification. The textbooks that will be impacted due to this revision and undergo modifications are:
👉 Mathematics (Class IX and X)
👉 Social Science Part-III (Class IX and X)
👉 Karbi MIL (Class X)
👉 Garo MIL (Class X)
👉 Baichitramoi Asom – Rapid Reader (Class IX and X)
👉 Advanced Mathematics (Class IX)
The Board is of the opinion that the changes in the curriculum are intended to ensure that the studymaterial is relevant for students preparing for the boards examination.
CHANGES IN THE ELECTIVE SUBJECT
Apart from the revisions in the pre-existing textbooks, the board has also brought some structural changes in the elective subjects.
For example, the Sanskrit (elective) Textbook will go a complete overhaul and will be replaced with a new version.
Similarly a new elective subject Dimasa has been introduced in Class IX. These changes are being incorporated to broaden the academic option for the students. Moreover steps have been taken to represent regional language in a better way within the curriculum.
OLD TEXTBOOKS WILL NO LONGER BE USED!
Yes. You heard it right. The Board has clarified that the old textbooks will no longer be valid from the 2026-27 academic session.Students, Teachers and Educational Institutions will have to completely shift to the revised study material. Sticking to the old books will prove futile for every concerned stakeholders.
WHEN WILL THE TEXTBOOKS BE AVAILABLE?
ASSEB has notified that the revised syllabus and the updated textbooks, once finalized will be uploaded on the official website of ASSEB Div I. You will also be able to download the textbooks from EduAid’s website.
