Answer: In 1904, Mary Curzon visited Kaziranga and could not find a single rhino. She requested her husband, Lord Curzon, to take measures to protect them. In 1905, the Kaziranga Proposed Reserve Forest was created. In 1916, it was named Kaziranga Game Sanctuary, and hunting was strictly prohibited. In 1950, it was renamed Kaziranga Wild Life Sanctuary by P. D. Stracey. Finally, in 1974, Kaziranga was designated a National Park. In 1985, UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site.

Answer: Talatal Ghar is a historical monument in Sivasagar. It had four storeys above ground and three storeys underground. There were two secret tunnels — one 16 km long leading to the Gargaon Palace and another 3 km long leading to the Dikhow river. It was built by the Ahom kings as a military base and palace.

Write a note on Charaideo Maidam.

Answer: Charaideo was the first capital of the Ahom dynasty, founded by Siu-Ka-Pha. It contains at least a hundred maidams, which are burial grounds of Ahom kings and nobles. The hillock of Charaideo was considered sacred by the Ahom people, who believed it to be the home of their ancestral gods. These maidams are similar to the pyramids of Egypt and are fascinating historical sites.
